RECAP: EXCELSIOR 1 - 2 HELMOND SPORT
Helmond Sport spent their Friday evening in Rotterdam celebrating a second-half stoppage time winner from Johan Voskamp as the visitors toppled fourth-place Excelsior.
American Charles Kaslauskas went the full 90 minutes in the midfidler for Jurgen Streppel's victorious squad.
The first half saw no goals, although a pair of yellow cards were handed out by center official Maarten Ketting. Helmond Sport defender Sjoerd Winkens and Sigourney Bandjar for the home team each picked up a yellow card for clumsy tackles.
In the 47th minute the home team took the lead when Kaslauskas sent a looking cross in to the penalty area. Voskamp headed the ball down to Marc Höcher who slammed the ball past Arjan van Dijk.
Leendert van Steensel knotted both teams at one goal each in the 72nd minute when he powered home a corner kick past a sprawling Robert Van Westerop and just under the outstretched leg of Mike Mampuya who was situated on the near post.
In stoppage time Voskamp scored the game winner after a scramble in front of van Dijk's goal mouth saw the ball fall to Helmond's leading scorer. The home team believed they had cleared the ball off the goal-line but the assistant referee deemed otherwise.
Ard Van Peppen picked up his second yellow following the game winner goal, pulling down a darting Mampuya just outside the penalty area, earning a trip to the showers just minutes before his own team.
Helmond will host struggling Telstar next Friday.
