RECAP: ASTERAS TRIPOLIS 2 1 ARIS THESSALONIKI
Hector Cuper's men looked like they were still in the Easter break, letting in two early goals before finally waking up and mustering a comeback attempt.
Freddy Adu earned his second start in as many appearances, and compatriot Eddie Johnson saw the final sixteen minutes of action.
The Galacticos surged into an early lead after Eder and Sebastián Bartolini each found the back of the net within a quarter hour.
In the fifth minute the Brazilian striker opened the scoring after cutting in across the top of the box and firing a left-footer inside the right post of stand-in keeper Michal Pekovič's net.
Bartolini added a second after thirteen minutes following a Leonel Ríos free kick from the right side. The Argentine midfielder drilled a ball through the box, which took a Pekovič touch, and found his compatriot camped out at the back post for the header and the two-goal advantage.
Adu picked up a yellow card in the 27th minute after chopping down Shikoze Udoji in the midfield.
Ten minutes into the second period Sergio Koke nearly set up Adu with a goal after a cross-field delivery that the American swatted into the left side netting.
Hector Cuper made his third and final substitution with just over a quarter hour remaining, bringing on Eddie Johnson for the ineffective Javier Cámpora.
Koke brought the visitors to within one with a 84th minute header off a clean delivery from Darcy Dolce Neto.
The Brazilian got off a cross from the right side, which the Spaniard caught up with and nodded forward past Tripoli keeper Matías Degra with his feet planted in the ground.
Looking to end in the fifth spot, Aris close out the season next Sunday at the Athenian port against the eventual runners-up to the season title, Olympiakos Piraeus.
