PREVIEW: RENNES - SOCHAUX
Rennes Coach Frederic Antonetti is hoping his team can recover seventh place in the Ligue 1 standings this Sunday with a win over struggling visitors Sochaux.
Carlos Bocanegra is expected to start at his customary left-back position. After spending two weeks on the sidelines with a groin injury, he returned to the lineup last weekend in the 1-1 tie at Paris Saint-Germain.
His compatriot, Sochaux forward Charlie Davies, however, has yet to return to full fitness after injuries sustained during a fatal October car crash and will be forced to sit out of what otherwise could have proven to be a compelling matchup for American fans.
With Davies resuming full training on Monday, the American striker will hope to prove Sochaux president Alexandre Lacombe wrong and return before the end of the season against either Bordeaux or in Sochaux's last home game against Auxerre.
Sochaux are also without former Rennes defender Jacques Faty, who will miss the game against his old team through suspension after picking up a red card during last weekend's 3-0 defeat to Boulogne.
Midfielders Stéphane Dalmat and Ryad Boudebouz returned to practice earlier this week but are still doubtful for Sunday. Defender Damien Perquis is available after serving a one-match ban last weekend against Boulogne.
When the two teams met earlier this season in December, Sochaux shut out Rennes by a score of 2-0 with Dalmat and Edouard Butin both scoring. Sochaux have struggled since with Les Lionceaux having managed only two league wins in 2010, against Lille and Toulouse.
Sochaux have lost four of their last five games, managing just two goals during that same stretch. They currently sit eight points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place.
Rennes, meanwhile, have tied their last three games and were overtaken by Lorient last weekend by a point in the standings.
