RECAP: CELTIC 2 - 1 RANGERS
Maurice Edu and Rangers suffered their third Scottish Premier League defeat on the season falling to Old Firm rivals Celtic on Tuesday evening at Celtic Park in Glasgow.
Edu started in the Rangers midfield and went the full 90 minutes in the season's penultimate match.
Fellow American DaMarcus Beasley was a disappointing omission from the gameday roster.
Celtic took it right to the SPL champions from the opening whistle and found the back of the net in just the seventh minute.
A foul by Steven Naismith on Aiden McGeady set up a free kick from outside the penalty area which was taken by Lee Naylor.
Naylor's left-footed effort from 20 yeards out curled inside the bottom left corner of the goal to give the Hoops the early advantage.
The goal came just two minutes after normal starter Allan McGregor had to be replcaed by backup Neil Alexander due to injury.
Rangers pushed for an equalizer and got it in the 42nd minute with one of Kenny Miller's patented headers.
Steven Whittacker swung in a corner from the right side and Miller found space 12 yards out to fire a header into the net to silence the Parkhead faithful.
But just two minutes later Celtic gave their fans something to cheer about when Marc-Antonie Fortune scored on a header on his own courtesy of a cross by Naylor.
Edu played in a more forward role the second half as the Light Blues looked to avoid defeat and nearly came up with a terrific assist in the 69th minute.
With his back to the goal, Edu gathered in a ball on the fly and volleyed a pass to Miller who fired a shot just wide of the left post.
Fifteen minutes later the entire Rangers team erupted in anger after a handball in the Celtic penalty area was not called.
Miller rocketed a shot towards goal from 12 yards out which was clearly deflected off the arm of Celtic's Scott Brown but the referee indicated that no infraction had occurred.
Edu and company will look to finish their season with a win when they return home for the season finale on Sunday versus Motherwell where the team will be presented with the SPL trophy.
