PREVIEW: AEK ATHENS – ARIS THESSALONIKI
Eddie Johnson, Freddy Adu and Aris return to the Greek capital on Sunday for the third game of the playoffs needing a win to secure any hope of Champions League qualification.
Aris boss Hector Cuper has yet to decide on his final lineup, but both Americans can expect to see playing time.
With four points distancing them from the top two teams in the post-season ranking, Thessaloniki need three points to remain in the race for the Champions League qualification spot.
Along with the other play-off tie between PAOK and Olympiacos, Sunday's game will serve as a make-up for the midweek matches cancelled due to the unrest in Athens.
Cuper will finally have Carlos Arano at his disposal following his three-game suspension, but will see another member of his back line on the bench after Kristi Vangelis suffered ligament damage in training. Fellow defender Christian Nasuti is also doubtful with a leg injury.
Although a recipient of a two-game suspension, Darcy Dolce Neto will play in Sunday's game, but miss the following two.
Striker Michalis Pavlis is doubtful for the Athenians following a leg injury in practice.
The attack will feature recent call-up for the Algerian national squad Rafik Djebbour, who netted the lone Athenian goal in Sunday's 2-1 loss to Olympiacos.
In the regular season AEK Athens got the better hand of their two meetings, winning at home and nabbing an equalizer on the road in a 1-1 draw.
