RECAP: WEEKEND FINNISH ACTION
Daniel Antunez and FC Inter defied the oddsmakers and blew away JJK while Greg Eckhardt did not see any time in VPS' win over Haka.
JJK 0 – 3 FC Inter
Three first half goals powered FC Inter to victory over JJK on Sunday evening at Harjun Stadion in Jyväskylä.
American Daniel Antunez started in defense and went the full 90 minutes for head coach Job Dragtsma who should be able to keep his job a little bit longer following the resounding away win.
Inter had come into the match in 13th place in the league standings and had not netted a goal in their last two matches, but that all changed during a ten minute span in the first half that saw the visitors score all their goals.
It started in the 28th minute when Mika Ojala found a cutting Henri Lehtonen in the box and Lehtonen was able to redirect it into the net.
Just two minutes later Lehtonen struck again when he was left along on the left side of the field and volleyed in a cross just inside the far post.
Inter rounded out the scoring in the 37th minute when Ojala scored one of his own with some help from Ugoala Kennedy Nwanganga who played a clever backheel pass to the streaking Ojala setting up an easy look at goal for the third and final score.
Antunez and company on the back line were able to fend off any second half opportunities from JJK and picked up the much needed three points.
Inter return to work next Monday when they take on Greg Eckhardt and VPS.
Greg Eckhardt was an unused substitute as VPS downed Haka 2-1 at home. Fellow American Brian Pope continues to rehab his injured shoulder and did not dress for the hosts.
