MEGHAN BRENNAN - Wednesday, July 7, 2010
Clarence Goodson and Hunter Freeman helped Start move on to the Norwegian Cup quarterfinals while Steve Clark and Kenneth DiVita Jenson watched as Hønefoss ended their run in a lopsided defeat.

Fredrikstad 0 - 1 IK Start

American defenders Hunter Freeman and Clarence Goodson advanced to the Norwegian Cup quarterfinals as IK Start survived 1. Divsion Fredrikstad to become one of five Eliteserien teams left in the tournament.

Freeman and Goodson started and right and center back respectively and both played a full 90 minutes. Each received yellow cards, Freeman in the 61st minute and Goodson in the 84th minute.

Following 69 scoreless minutes, youngster Avni Pepa headed a Petter Bruer Hanssen corner to the far post and past Fredrikstad keeper Lasse Staw for the only goal and game winner.

The cup victory was much anticipated by Knut Tørum's squad who hasn't seen a win since their May 16 Eliteserien victory over Kongsvinger.

In addition to Start, Viking, Odd Grenland, Strømsgodset and Rosenborg round out the Eliteserien teams still alive in the cup.

Next up, Start travels to Sandefjord Saturday in hopes of an easy Eliteserien win against the league's last placed team.

Notes

Both goalkeeper Steve Clark and striker Kenneth DiVita Jensen watched from the sidelines as Hønefoss fell victim to Odd Grenland and said farewell to their 2010 Cup chances in a 5-1 loss at home.
