TRAFTON KENNEY - Monday, July 12, 2010
Daniel Antunez and Greg Eckhardt both helped their teams push upwards in the Veikkausliiga standings as the Finnish domestic season hit its midpoint over the weekend.

FC Inter 2 - 0 FC Honka

Daniel Antunez started and played the full 90 minutes in a comfortable win over FC Honka on Friday at the Veritas Stadion.

The Santa Ana, California native has played a versatile role for FC Inter this season, with coach Job Dragtsma employing him in center midfield before moving him out to the left wing over the past six games.

Minutes before the opening whistle, Dragtsma was forced to shuffle his lineup when Kennedy Nwanganga picked up a knock during the warm-up with Joni Kauko taking his place in the midfield.

Home fans had to wait until the second half for FC Inter to break the deadlock. In the 59th minute, Mika Makitalo released Severi Paajanen in on goal who scored his first of the season right at its midway point.

FC Inter were energized by the debuts of two new players, 22- year old Brazilian striker Andrey Almeida and Finnish youth product Kalle Kauppi in the closing minutes.

With three minutes to play, Kauppi found Guillano Grotille in the box who killed any chance of a comeback by FC Honka with an easy finish. FC Inter are now in seventh place with 18 points. They travel to face IFK Mariehamn next Sunday.

VPS 2 - 1 MyPa

Greg Eckhardt made a substitute appearance as VPS edged out MyPa in a Sunday match-up in the Veikkausliiga.

Eckhardt came on in the 63rd minute for Tero Koskela after Pekka Kainu had put VPS ahead in the 28th minute after good build up play in the attacking third.

MyPa had show early signs of fatigue after a grueling schedule saw them post impressive victories over FC Trans Nava in Europa League qualifying and Daniel Antunez's FC Inter in the Veikkausliiga last week.

Things got worse for MyPa when the referee called a penalty for a foul in the box which Jussi Aalto finished easily for the second goal of the game.

MyPa got a consolation goal in the 90th minute through substitute Maksim Votinov but VPS held off for the win. VPS sit in eighth place and play JJK next Monday.
