BRIAN SCIARETTA - Tuesday, July 20, 2010
US U20 head coach Thomas Rongen has announced the roster for the US team that will compete in next week's 2010 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.

The team mixes many players who are considered strong candidates to make the roster for next year's U20 World Cup in Colombia along with a few players still looking to improve their standings.

The roster will be lead by SC Braga central defender Gale Agbossoumonde who is widely considered one of the top prospects in the entire US system. Goalkeeper Samir Badr will also join the team after participating in preseason with FC Porto's first team.

The midfield will be lead by Dillon Powers who is one of two players on the team who participated in the 2009 U20 World Cup. Powers has been serving as captain of the U20 team for most of this cycle.

The forward pool will be lead by New York Red Bulls prospect Juan Agudelo and the former Mexican youth national team duo of Adrian Ruelas and Omar Salgado who impressed Rongen at the most recent camp in San Jose.

Salgado, 16, left his club Chivas to participate with the US U20 team after being at odds with the club's policy of only employing players eligible for the Mexican national team.

Due to club conflicts and injuries, some stand-out players are missing. Most notably midfielders Sebastian Lletget who is still recovering from a serious case of mononucleosis and Alexander Zahavi who is coming off an injury to his leg and is also on the verge of transferring to Israeli Premier League club Maccabi Haifa.

Also missing are key MLS players such as Tristan Bowen of the LA Galaxy and the Philadelphia Union duo of Jack McInerney and Amobi Okugo.

The US will play their opening game of the Milk Cup on July 26 against China followed by a game against Denmark on July 28. They will conclude the tournament with a single playoff game.
