Tony Taylor netted a late goal to secure a draw for Estoril in their first competitive match of the season, while Bryan Arguez also started for Os Canarinhos.

Estoril kicked off the new season at home with a tie against fellow second division team Varzim in the League Cup.

After massive changes in the offseason, in which the entire coaching staff and well over half the roster were replaced, the Estoril faithful were anxious to see the team's new look.

New coach Vinícius Eutrópio opted to start only four players who were with the team last season, including bothTaylor and Arguez.

The first half belonged to the visitors as they created the more dangerous opportunities, eventually taking the lead in the 41st minute following a Rui Martins tally.

Estoril's best chance in the opening period fell to Taylor just before the half, but the Jacksonville native's shot hit the bar and Varzim entered the interval with a lead.

Brazilian midfielder Nelsinho made his debut when he replaced Arguez to begin the second half, and Estoril began to control the ball with Varzim content to counter attack.

Striker Luis Leal, also making his first appearance, again hit the post after coming on in the 76th minute.

The pressure finally paid off for the home team seven minutes from time as Taylor combined well with Leal to level the score.

In injury time the former U-20 striker had a chance to clinch all three points for Estoril but his short range effort didn't find the target.

With one point apiece Estoril and Varzim sit tied for second place in Group C of the Taça da Liga, two points behind Oliveirense who defeated Santa Clara 2-1.

Os Canarinhos will next be in action on 8/15 when they welcome Santa Clara to the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota for another Cup game.
