PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
Jose Francisco Torres and Pachuca look to regain their winning ways against Chivas while Estudiantes striker Sammy Ochoa looks to prove his worth to his new head coach versus Atlante.
Pachuca – Chivas
Pachuca will host Chivas on Saturday in Hidalgo, desperately needing a win.
Pachuca will hope the break in the season last week will help them correct their losing ways as they face a Chivas team that had struggled since losing the final of the Copa Libertadores before knocking off Sammy Ochoa and Estudiantes last Sunday.
Jose Francisco Torres will likely start, while forward Herculez Gomez appears to have solidified his position as the first substitute off the bench.
Marco Vidal has not seen the bench recently but could be slotted as a surprising starter over Raul Martinez.
Vidal played in place of Martinez last week in a friendly versus Monterrey and appeared to impress head coach Pablo Marini.
The Tuzos will face a Chivas team that will likely start American Miguel Ángel Ponce, who has seen time as a major contributor to Chivas this season.
Ponce is a duel citizen who has yet to decide his international future, although playing at Chivas, which has a policy of only signing players born in Mexico or players born to Mexican parents, may indicate that he is leaning towards Mexico.
Pachuca will have a full squad available while Chivas will likely be missing Alberto Medina and Omar Esparza.
Atlante – Estudiantes
Estudiantes will visit Cancun on Sunday to face Atlante in round seven action of the Mexican Apertura.
Both teams are currently in the relegation picture and will need a win in order to provide some breathing room.
Estudiantes will have the additional challenge of playing for the first time for new head coach Eduardo Acevedo who has taken over since Miguel Herrera was fired.
Sammy Ochoa seemed to have cemented his starting spot with Miguel Herrera, but will no doubt have to fight to retain his position with his new coach.
Both teams should have their entire lineups available.
Edgar Castillo will hope to see time off the bench when San Luis visits Pumas on Sunday.
