PREVIEW: WEEKEND ENGLISH ACTION
Brad Friedel will be tasked with keeping Stuart Holden and Bolton at bay while Tim Howard looks to lead Everton to their first win of the season at home to Newcastle in a full slate of English action.
Aston Villa - Bolton
Kevin MacDonald will be in charge of his last game for Aston Villa, and will hope Brad Friedel will be able to put a stop to Stuart Holden's Bolton Wanderers.
Gerard Houllier will take charge of the club officially next week, his debut being slowed down by his former post with the French Football Federation.
MacDonald made a case to be brought on full time, but the club chose to go with the pedigree of Houllier.
Villa, under the leadership of MacDonald, have had a rollercoaster last six games, from beating West Ham 3-0 to crashing out of the Europa League at home.
MacDonald will continue to be without John Carew and Stephen Ireland due to hamstring injuries, while Fabian Delph is out with a knee injury.
Bolton will be without Gary Cahill who was harshly booked for a late challenge on Marouane Chamakh in their last outing against Arsenal, and after an unsuccessful appeal, he will have to sit out for the next three games, joining Jussi Jaskelain on the sideline.
Sean Davis and Joey O'Brien are out with knee injuries, while Gavin McCann could return after recovering from an ankle injury.
Blackburn - Fulham
Eddie Johnson will look to join Clint Dempsey against Blackburn as the Fulham front man was finally given a chance in their last outing.
At the death of the game Johnson was fouled to set up Fulham's game winner at the hands of Moussa Dembele.
Mark Hughes will have a huge hole to fill up front with his talismanic forward Bobby Zamora out with a broken leg.
Damien Duff and David Stockdale may be able to return, but Philleppe Senderos is out until February.
Andy Johnson and Diomansy Kamara are both sidelined for the immediate future.
Blackburn were able to get an away result in their last outing at The City of Manchester Stadium with a 1-1 draw, and will look to take that momentum back to Ewood Park.
Michel Salgado is out until the begining of October with a thigh muscle strain, while Kieth Andrews and Ryan Nelson are both out for the immediate future.
Tottenham - Wolverhampton
Marcus Hahnemann will have to be on point when his Wolves go to take on Tottenham Hotspur in north London.
Mick McCarthy will look at their last game as points dropped as they gifted Fulham their last minute game winner, also while losing Christophe Berra after two yellow cards.
Ronald Zubar is out with a hamstring injury, though Jelle Van Damme seems to have recovered from his ankle injury.
Stephen Hunt is the last Wolves player out, sidelined through a metatarsal fracture.
Tottenham have an injury hit squad, but still managed to hit Werder Bremen for two inside 18 minutes in Tuesday's Champions League contest.
Michael Dawson, Jamie O'Hara, Rafael Van Der Vaart, and Jonathan Woodgate are all sidelined, joining Jermain Defoe on the sidlines. Luka Modric and Gomes are still at least one week away from full fitness.
Everton - Newcastle
Slumping Everton will look to Tim Howard to continue his heroics in goal as Newcastle come to Goodison Park.
Everton sit next to last in the Premier League having not won any of their opening four games in the League, sitting just above West Ham.
After picking up a result against Manhcester United, the squad will look to push on at home against Newcastle.
The Toffees will be without Jack Rodwell and Louis Saha, but Victor Anichebe should be back in the team by October.
Newcastle could have Danny Guthrie and Danny Simpson back, but will definitely be without Leon Best.
Dan Gosling and Steven Taylor are also long term injury absentees, with Gosling out until January with an ACL knee injury.
Derby County – Barnsley
Conor Doyle hopes to find his way on the field as Derby County plays Barnsley this weekend in the Championship.
Doyle played the final minutes of last week's loss to Hull City. The young Texan could see some playing time this Saturday.
The Rams currently only have one win this season and will need to start gaining points if they want to stay out of the bottom half of the standings.
No injuries were reported in Derby's last game, but Rob Husle is suffering from an achilles injury and could miss.
Barnsley beat Leeds United 5-2 last week and hope to ride that momentum to a win again this weekend.
James McEveley left injured in Barnsley's game last week and is questionable for the Leeds United clash.
Carlisle United – Brighton
Frank Simek and Carlisle United look to continue their strong start of the season against Brighton in League One action.
Simek is a staple for the Cumbrians and should again start this weekend's game.
Carlisle are currently second in the standings but would like to separate from the pack with a big win over Brighton.
The Cumbrians' Danny Livesey is suffering from a groin injury and is questionable.
Brighton are only two points from Carlisle and would love to climb the standings with a win over the hosts. They won their last game 2-0 over Milton Keynes Dons.
They came off last game without any injuries and should play the same line up this Saturday.
Plymouth Argyle – Sheffield Wednesday
Anton Peterlin and Plymouth take on Sheffield Wednesday in a League One contest.
The young American went the full ninety minutes for the Pilgrims last week and should see time against Wednesday.
Plymouth have only won one game this season and know they need to start maximizing their points to keep pace in League One. They tied Colchester United last week 1-1.
David Button left last week's game injured and is questionable for the Pilgrims this week.
Wednesday are enjoying an incredible start to the season and are currently first in the standings.
They did lose last week to Carlisle but they hope to regain back their early momentum.
Jermaine Johnson looks to be injured again for Wednesday. He is out with a knee ligament injury.
Jonathan Spector will look to be on the bench for West Ham against Stoke.
Mike Grella hopes to find the bench as Leeds United takes on Doncaster Rovers this Friday.
