RECAP: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
WOODY BAUM - Monday, September 20, 2010
Marco Vidal started his second consecutive match but Pachuca's struggled continued after falling to San Luis while Sammy Ochoa was a late sub versus Pumas.

Estudiantes 2 – 2 Pumas

Estudiantes continue to distance themselves from the relegation zone after picking up a point against a strong Pumas team with a tie on Friday.

The hosts took the lead early on Friday in the 20th minute when Jorge Zmogilny scored an incredible goal from outside the area that Pumas goalkeeper Sergio Bernal couldn't reach.

However Pumas came back early, tying the score in the 38th minute when Jehu Chiapas scored an equally impressive goal from outside the area.

Pumas quickly took the lead in the 47th minute when Martin Bravo received a pass from Leandro Augustus in the area and beat the Estudiantes goalkeeper on the near post.

However, Mauro Cejas rescued Estudiantes, as he has done all season long, when he received the ball inside the area on a rebound and put it past Bernal to tie the game.

Sammy Ochoa came on in the second half entering in the 83rd minute.

Estudiantes will hope to continue their strong run next week when they take on Pachuca next Saturday.

San Luis 1 – 0 Pachuca

Pachuca continued their winless streak, this time losing to San Luis on the road on Saturday.

Marco Vidal started again for Pachuca, playing 90 minutes for the second consecutive week in what bodes well for his chances going forward.

However, Pachuca ended up playing from behind from the start when Othoniel Arce scored in the eighth minute, sliding to reach the pass sent by Sergio Ponce.

It would be the only goal of the game, as Pachuca continued to struggle to score.

Jose Francisco Torres did not start for the first time all season, with Ruben Ayala opting for newcomer Carlos Peña, perhaps looking for more offensive options.

However Torres did play entering in the 71st minute. Herculez Gomez also came on in the 46th minute and played the entire second half, but has still yet to find the back of the net this season.

Edgar Castillo did not play.

Pachuca will host Estudiantes next Saturday.
