RECAP: WEEKEND DANISH ACTION
DAVID SMITH - Monday, October 11, 2010
Babajide Ogunbiyi fired Viborg out of the relegation zone in their convincing win over Brønshøj while Benny Feilhaber and Aarhus saw their first-place lead evaporate during their weekend off.

Viborg FF 3 - 0 Brønshøj BK

Babajide netted the winning goal for Viborg - his third of the season - as they escaped the bottom three with a strong win at home over Brønshøj on Sunday afternoon.

Knowing the team's still-precarious position could be affected by even the smallest of factors, one of the team's local sponsors made sure the home crowd would be working to their favor by purchasing all available tickets for the game and allowing all fans the opportunity to attend for free.

The visitors nevertheless came out brightly, hitting the crossbar after three minutes then coming close once again six minutes later.

The Greens weathered the storm for the first 20-plus minutes, then shifted control of the game back in their favor, taking the lead in the 34th minute when Ogunbiyi rose high to head home a free kick from George Popkhadze - his third goal through ten league contests this season.

Carlos Shiralipoor was the catalyst for Viborg's second goal ten minutes later, rushing up the left side of the field before laying off a dangerous pass to Nicolai Melchiorsen, who tapped it over to teammate Philip Rasmussen to bury for the 2-0 lead.

They wrapped the game up shortly into the second half, as Jesper Kjaerulff sent a headed pass towards Shiralipoor to poke over the line for the three-goal lead in the 58th minute.

The second straight win pulls Viborg free of the relegation zone, up five spots to ninth place with 11 points in the bag. They have the chance to continue their climb up their standings on Friday when they go for a third straight win on their trip to second-place Vejle.

Notes

Aarhus' regularly scheduled First Division game on Sunday against FC Fyn was postponed until Wednesday, October 20 due to a number missing international players. Benny Feilhaber, who is amongst the players suiting up for their country during the international break, will return to league action with the rest of his team on October 17 when Aarhus host Hjørring.
