PREVIEW: DANISH CUP ACTION
DAVID SMITH - Wednesday, October 27, 2010
Babajide Ogunbiyi and Viborg hope forget their league woes as they take on struggling Aalborg while Michael Parkhurst and Nordsjaelland face a tough trip to Odense in Danish Cup fourth round action.

Viborg FF - Aalborg BK

Babajide Ogunbiyi and Viborg will look to score a major confidence-building upset on Wednesday evening when they host Superligaen last-place team Aalborg in their attempt to make the quarterfinals.

Aalborg forwards Marcus Tracy and Chris Rolfe are both still recovering from long-term injuries and will miss the match.

Both teams have performed well below expectations in their respective league campaigns, with Aalborg uncharacteristically in the Superligaen cellar and Viborg barely scraping by above the First Division relegation zone.

The visitors gave their fans some hope over the weekend that they might be on the way to turning things around when they recorded a strong 2-0 win over Nordsjaelland, and posting a similar result against Viborg would go a long way to getting the ball rolling on their season.

Viborg were beaten by former top-flighters Køge last Friday, and would love to make up to the home fans by providing what would amount to a huge upset win over a team who is - at least for the remainder of the current season - one division higher in the Danish system.

Viborg have a healthy squad available for the game, and will see the return of Jeff Mensah who missed the weekend's game due to card suspension.

Aalborg has a long injury list, with Louay Chanko, Dickson Nwakaeme, Daniel Fredheim Holm, Chris Rolfe, Marcus Tracy and Jakob Ahlmann all out.

Odense BK - FC Nordsjaelland

Michael Parkhurst and the Wild Tigers will need to quickly shake off the weekend's tough loss to last-place Aalborg should they hope to continue their defense of the Danish Cup title when they visit a tough Odense team.

Nordsjaelland will be looking to atone for the weekend's defeat at the hands of the league's cellar team, and are hoping that a tired Odense team who has underperformed in recent weeks will give them the chance to show their better side on Thursday night.

Morten Wieghorst's squad has been on a slide in recent weeks, having not won in almost exactly one month and are slowly slipping down through the bottom half of the standings.

Odense are also looking less than spectacular in recent weeks, although they can perhaps blame fatigue to some degree, as they have had to navigate a busy Europa League schedule on top of normal league play.

Both teams look to have full squads available for the game.

Notes

Benny Feilhaber is being given a short rest by Aarhus coach Peter Sørensen as he recovers from a minor ankle injury suffered over the weekend, and did not make the trip to third-tier Varde IF on Wednesday afternoon as Aarhus advanced with a tight 1-0 win.
