GERMAN CUP 3RD ROUND DRAW
Pairings for late-December's third round of the German Cup were set on Sunday evening, sending all four remaining Americans on the road as they look to push towards next year's final in Berlin.
Even though Michael Bradley and Borussia Mönchengladbach are languishing in last place in the Bundesliga standings, their penalty-shootout win over Leverkusen saw them make their deepest run in the cup in more than five years.
They will visit current third-place team Hoffenheim in the round of 16 in one of only two all-Bundesliga matchups on the schedule.
David Yelldell and Duisburg had no problems dealing with Regionalliga team Hallescher FC, and will definitely have a tough road ahead of them as they must once again hit the road to deal with top-flight team Cologne.
Cologne have so far experienced a relatively tough league campaign which has had them near the bottom of the Bundesliga standings, however had no problems to reach the final 16 with their 3-0 blowout over 1860 Munich in the previous round.
Jermaine Jones will be racing against the clock to return from an ankle injury in time to take the field for Schalke when they visit 2. Bundesliga challengers FC Augsburg.
The Königsblauen barely squeezed by FSV Frankfurt in Gelsenkirchen, and are still showing no signs of improvement in Bundesliga play, where they are still deep in the relegation zone and with only one win through their first ten games of the season.
Wrapping up American participation in the competition is Eintracht Frankfurt's visit to 2. Bundesliga team Alemannia Aachen. Frankfurt midfielder Ricardo Clark has been used only sparingly by the team so far this term and has yet to appear in either of the team's first two cup games.
All games will take place on December 21-22, with exact dates and times still to be determined in the upcoming weeks.
