PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
The American trio of Jose Francisco Torres, Herculez Gomez and Marco Vidal attempt to lead Pachuca to an improbable playoff berth while San Luis and Edgar Castillo will look to finish strong.
Necaxa – Pachuca
In the final game of the tournament Pachuca will visit Necaxa in Mexico City in a must-win situation.
Pachuca, left for dead after their loss last month to San Luis, have miraculously resurrected their playoff hopes and are a win away from securing the last playoff position.
Jose Francisco Torres is expected to start again in the midfield alongside newcomer Carlos Peña.
Herculez Gomez will look to see the field in the second half, with the starting spot instead going to red hot Dario Cvitanich.
Midfielder Marco Vidal will also hope to see time off the bench.
Pachuca will be without Rodolfo Cota, who is injured, while Necaxa should have their entire lineup available.
Santos – Estudiantes
Estudiantes, despite sitting in last place in their group, will aim to follow up on their strong performance last week in which they surprisingly defeated Toluca.
Estudiantes will be led by Mauro Cejas who scored a hat trick last Friday.
Though not projected to start, Sammy Ochoa will hope to see the field in the second half to close the season on a positive note.
Estudiantes will be without Ramón Morales, Jorge Zamogilny, and Mario Rodriguez who are injured.
Santos' entire lineup will be available.
Cruz Azul – San Luis
San Luis visit Cruz Azul in Mexico City on Sunday with hopes of regaining the number one spot in their group.
With both teams assured playoff spots, fans can expect a cautious game in which both teams try to avoid injuries.
Edgar Castillo has now entered as a late substitute in the past three games and hopes to make one final statement to head coach Ignacio Ambriz in a push for more playing time.
Both teams have their entire lineups available.
