DANISH CUP SEMIFINAL DRAW
Pairings for the Danish Cup semifinal round were set on Friday, setting Michael Parkhurst and FC Nordsjaelland up with a two-legged fight against Randers in their quest for a repeat trip to the winners' podium.
Having overcome their hosts AC Horsens by a single goal on Thursday night, Michael Parkhurst once again has the distinction of being the last American left in the Danish Cup, as the team again marches towards the late-May final in Copenhagen.
The chance of the draw saw them paired with Randers FC in one semifinal matchup, with Midtjylland and Esbjerg completing the other side of the bracket, creating the possibility for a bit of deja vu in the May 22 final.
Last season's final saw the Wild Tigers down Midtjylland by two goals in the thrilling overtime final, and a rematch could very well be in the cards.
The semifinal also pits Parkhurst against Randers frontman and leading scorer Yura Movsisyan in what could have been a battle of Denmark's top-two performing Americans, however the Azerbaijan-born striker has recently chosen to represent Armenia on the international level.
Both teams are currently struggling mightily in league play, with Nordsjaelland sitting just one point ahead of Randers - and just outside of the relegation zone - although with nearly six months until the two-legged series, the fortunes of either could take a drastic turn before the meeting.
The semifinal is set to take place of two legs, with Parkhurst and his compatriots hosting the first on Thursday, April 28, and visiting Randers six days later on May 4.
