RECAP: GD ESTORIL PRAIA 0-1 LEIXÕES SC
Tony Taylor was a late substitute as Estoril fell at home to Leixões in the Liga Orangina.
Coming off a defeat on the road against league leading Trofense, Os Canarinhos were anxious to get back on track against Leixões in the Estádio António Coimbra da Mota where they had yet to lose this season.
But a deflected goal and a first half red card to Tiago Costa allowed the visitors to return to northern Portugal with all three points.
In the 31st minute a shot from Dyego Sousa ricocheted past Cleber after hitting defender Tiago Bernadini, who had taken the place of the injured Lameirão in the starting lineup, giving Leixões a one goal lead.
Ten minutes later the situation deteriorated further for the hosts when Costa, who had created Estoril's most dangerous chance to that point, was shown a straight red after getting involved with Laranjeiro.
The expulsion forced coach Vinícius Eutrópio to make a tactical change just before the half, bringing on the defensive minded Steven Vitória for striker Paulo Sergio.
With Estoril's attack depleted and Leixões content to protect their lead, the second half was largely devoid of action as neither goal was threatened with any consistency.
The late introduction of attackers Luis Leal and Taylor, in the 70th and 79th minutes respectively, briefly breathed life into Os Canarinhos' attack but it was too little too late as they could not prevent the defeat.
The result marked Estoril's first consecutive defeats of the season, and drops the promotion hopefuls into a tie for eighth place.
Os Canarinhos will look to right the ship on Sunday when they fly to the Azores to play Santa Clara.
