ANDREW VORCE - Tuesday, December 7, 2010
Brad Friedel was beaten by three quality Liverpool goals as his return to his former club was a largely forgettable occasion.

With a makeshift line up due to the massive amount of injuries to the Aston Villa squad, it took Liverpool only 13 minutes to find the opener. The play opened up and Martin Skrtel was allowed the time and space to power a header towards Friedel's net. Without need of a second invitation, David Ngog decided to pounce and redirected the Slovak international's header past the helpless Friedel.

Ryan Babel had Liverpool's second just 60 seconds later after a brilliant finish. Lucas chipped a ball into the space that Babel was running on to, and the striker did the rest. Waiting for the ball to fall just perfectly while holding off his defender, the Dutch hit man struck his volley sweetly across Friedel and into the far post.

Just 10 minutes into the second half Maxi Rodriguez rounded off the scoring after a quick counter attack. Pepe Reina siezed the opportunity to spring the attack, throwing half of the field to Rodriguez who turned to run at the Villa defense. The forward picked out Ngog on the left wing, who played a delayed one-two with Rodriguez providing the finish past the American between the sticks.

Ciaran Clark was the only player booked in the outing. Aston Villa will try to get things back on track when they face West Brom at home on Saturday.
