BUDDLE TRIALING WITH BIRMINGHAM CITY
With the January transfer window approaching fast, one of the MLS players who may be making a move overseas is LA Galaxy forward Edson Buddle who is now on trial at Birmingham City of the English Premier League.
Buddle, 29, arrived at Birmingham earlier in the week and still has a few more days left on his trial.
"Edson has been on trial with us," Birmingham City press officer Chris Kershaw told YA on Thursday. "He's here for a few more days. We're just taking a look at him basically. The coach said that if they decided to do anything with regards to Edson it would certainly be a reasonably priced deal but that we need to take a further look at him."
Buddle, who is a native of New Rochelle, New York, was a member of the 2010 United States World Cup team where he played in two games.
He has earned six caps total for the US national team scoring two goals which both came in a 3-1 victory over Australia in a friendly prior to the World Cup.
After playing one year of college soccer with State Fair Community College, Buddle joined MLS in 2001 when he signed with the Columbus Crew.
In his career, he has played with Columbus, the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC and the LA Galaxy. Over that span he has been one the league's most successful players in scoring 90 goals.
Despite missing significant time due to the World Cup, Buddle played in 28 games including the playoffs this season for the Galaxy and scored 19 goals.
