RECAP: RANGERS 2 - 1 MOTHERWELL
Sunday, January 30, 2011
A Maurice Edu goal powered Rangers to victory over Motherwell in the semifinal of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday afternoon at Hamden Park in Glasgow.

Edu started in the Light Blues midfield and went the distance in the victory.

Rangers will now face Old Firm rivals Celtic in the final which will be played on March 20th, also at Hamden Park.

Edu opened the scoring in the 20th minute with an absolute bullet from about 25 yards out with his left foot.

It was a simple pass into the Californian who then had plenty of space to unleash a strike that caught the Motherwell defense by surprise as the ball tailed away from goalkeeper Darren Randolph and into the net.

But the Steelmen hung tough and eventually evened things up in the 66th minute courtesy of Keith Lasley who fired in a shot just outside of the area.

The Motherwell goal woke up the Glasgow club who clearly wanted to avoid extra time and they would snag the gamewinner just nine minutes later thanks to Steven Naismith.

A long ball into Nikica Jelavic was controlled well by the Croatian who then sent over a picture perfect cross to Naismith for an easy header into goal.

Edu and company then were able to close out the final 15 minutes to stamp their ticket to the final.

Next up for Rangers is a return to Scottish Premier League action on Wednesday versus Hearts at home.
