STARIKOV SIGNS NEW ZENIT DEAL
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Friday, February 4, 2011
Russian Premier League power Zenit St. Petersburg have confirmed that they have signed American forward Eugene Starikov to a new two and a half year contract on Friday.

Starikov has previously been with Zenit on their youth teams however he was loaned all of last year to Siberian club Tom Tomsk.

He began the year struggling to see playing time but then the Soviet-Ukrainian born American broke into the starting lineup at Tomsk toward the end of the season.

The Florida native's play in the final slate of games at Tomsk made enough of an impression on his parent club for them to extend a new deal.

"It's true. Starikov has signed a new 2.5 year deal with Zenit," Zenit's press officer Evgeny Gusev told YA.

Starikov is currently with Zenit's first team in Spain for the Marbella Cup.

In the team's first game of the tournament he scored the game winner in a 2-1 victory over Bulgarian club Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
