BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, February 14, 2011
After impressing on his trial with Swedish club Mjallby, forward Samuel Petrone has been offered a contract by the Allsvenskan club for the upcoming 2011 season.

Petrone, 21, is a native of Glen Rock, New Jersey and most recently played at Seton Hall University.

Earlier this month he was offered a week-long trial with Mjallby and he made the most of it scoring multiple times in friendlies.

The club has now given an offer to Petrone who also played at Clemson University and the Red Bulls youth team.

"We have had Samuel on trial for a week and he has made some impression, on the field and outside." Club president Jorgen Martinsson told YA on Monday. "So, tomorrow he has a flight back to the US and a contract from us in his hand."

Martinsson also added that he sees a very bright future for Petrone should he decide to sign with Mjallby. He added that he hopes Petrone returns to Sweden soon.

"We really think that he has the skill and the character to be a top player in Sweden, at a start," concluded Martinsson. "We hope and think that he will turn back to Sweden as soon as possible and join the team."
