PREVIEW: WEEKEND ENGLISH ACTION
Stuart Holden is the only Yank slated to start in this weekends FA Cup Quater Finals as Bolton travel to Birmingham in a limited weekend in English action.
Birmingham - Bolton
Stuart Holden and Bolton will need to be on edge as they travel to cup specialists Birmingham in the FA Cup Quarter-Finals.
Bolton have been on a good run as of late including a recent win over Aston Villa at home. Bolton will continue to be without Zat Knight as the big defender is still sidelined with his knee injury. Jlloyd Samuel and Sean Davis are both out with Sam Ricketts out until August with a ruptured achilles.
Birmingham will be chomping at the bit to get more silverware in their cabinets after recently winning the Carling Cup, beating Arsenal 2-1 in the final. Birmingham could use the distraction of cup play, sitting just outside the relegation zone based on goal difference. Their league position is partly due to their injury list which is extensive.
David Bentley and James McFadden are both out for the encounter while Barry Ferguson will be a last minute decision by Alex McLeish as the defender is struggling with a rib injury. Alexander Hleb will look to return next weekend with Craig Gardner and Enric Valles also on the same time frame. Scott Dann is out until August with a hamstring injury.
Hull City – Coventry
Brad Guzan and Hull City take on Coventry in Championship action.
Guzan started and went the distance for the Tigers in their midweek game. He looks again to feature this weekend.
Hull are currently eight points off of the last playoff spot and will need a win to gain ground on Leeds.
Tiger's goalie Vito Mannone is out, leaving Guzan as the starter for most likely the duration of his loan deal which expires on April 9th.
Coventry currently sit in the lower half of the standings and would like to create some breathing room between them and the relegation zone. A win this weekend would help greatly.
Keiren Westwood, Coventry's goalie, is questionable to play with a hip injury, while his replacement last week sustained a similar injury and is doubtful. Cilve Platt will miss with a calf problem and Marlon King is still serving suspension.
Leeds United – Ipswich Town
Eric Lichaj and Leeds United take on Ipswich Town in Championship play this weekend.
Lichaj has been a regular starter since joining Leeds on loan and should again feature for them. This is to be Lichaj's last game for United before returning to Aston Villa.
Leeds will attempt to keep the last playoff spot and climb up the standings in hope of automatic promotion.
Coach Simon Grayson has no new injury news.
Town are coming off a midweek loss against Reading and are looking to reverse their luck against Leeds.
Ipswich's David Norris will serve his first game of suspension for yellow card accumulation and Mark Kennedy will miss with a hamstring injury.
Carlisle United – Peterborough United
Frank Simek and Carlisle United take on Peterborough United in a League One clash.
Simek is a regular starter for the Cumbrians and again should be in the starting eleven this weekend.
Carlisle are coming off a win over Hartlepool in the midweek and are hoping to build on that victory.
The Cumbrians will miss Danny Livesey who sustained a hamstring strain in their midweek warm up earlier this week. Liam Noble will miss due to suspension after a red card he received against Hartlepool.
Peterborough are currently fourth in the standings and in a playoff position, but they only sit two points from an automatic promotion spot, making this game crucial.
They will be without Lee Frecklington who had hernia surgery and will miss for a month. Dave Hibbert is sidelined with a dislocated knee.
Swindon Town – Dagenham & Redbridge
Mike Grella and Swindon Town host Dagenham & Redbridge in League One play.
Grella has been a regular starter for Town since joining on loan and the American forward should again feature this weekend.
Swindon are currently last in the standings and will need a win crucially to have any chance at climbing out of the relegation zone.
Town goalie David Lucas looks to miss with an arm infection. Vincent Pericard, Lescinel Jean-Francois, and Milan Misun will all miss as well with injury.
Dagenham have won two games in a row and will want to continue their streak over Swindon Town. They are currently two points from the relegation zone, and a win this weekend will give them breathing room.
Damien McCrory twisted his ankle in their last game and will miss.
Jonathan Spector will look to play a role from the bench as West Ham take on Stoke in the FA Cup.
Anton Peterlin and Plymouth take on Hartlepool.
Jon-Paul Pittman hopes to feature as Wycombe take on Stevenage.
