RECAP: EUPEN 1 - 1 ANDERLECHT
Sacha Kljestan went the distance for injury stricken Anderlecht but the Belgian champions could only manage to pick up a point on the road against relegation threatened Eupen.
In this penultimate game of the regular season before the play-offs begin, coach Ariel Jacobs team couldn't hold onto a first half lead after Romelu Lukaku burst forward and got ahold of Silvio Proto's goal kick after the Eupener defense hesitated. The youngster headed into the back of the net seven minutes before the intermission. This could have been the second goal of the half however but Kljestan's shot struck the post.
Added to the list of injuries was Kanu when he was unable to continue the game after just 13 minutes. Tom De Sutter, recently back from injury himself, came on in his place.
At the start of the second half Les Mauves were the dominant force and had a pair of excellent opportunities to double their lead through De Sutter and midfielder Guillaume Gillet, but Czech keeper Radek Petr was up to the task on both occasions to deny the champions.
Although they controlled the game throughout, Anderlecht surrendered a very late goal to deny themselves all the points. Kevin Vandenbergh's 83rd minute shot was pushed away by Proto, but the rebound fell kindly to Jose Espinal at the far post and the Domenican made it count.
Although Les Mauves were only able bring just a point back home to Brussels, they still returned to the top of the Jupiler Pro League because Genk were unable to overcome Westerlo.
Next Sunday third place Gent will visit Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, while Genk travels to Brugge to take on Cercle.
