RECAP: WEEKEND TURKISH ACTION
Both Americans shared the spoils this weekend with Jozy Altitore seeing a full ninety in a one-goal draw, while Freddy Adu saw over an hour of action as a starter in a scoreless Sunday afternoon with Rizespor.
Kardemir Karabükspor 1 1 Bursaspor
Bursaspor jumped out to an early lead, only to see the tenth-place holders equalize within 20 minutes.
Jozy Altidore featured in the attack for the Green and Whites, and went the distance
Kenny Miller wasted no time in opening the scoring with an acrobatic touch off a corner from the left in the fourth minute. Standing with his back to the goal the Scotsman posted up against his man, simply lifted his right leg, and redirected the delivery into the back of Vjekoslav Tomic's net for the early lead.
Bulgarian Emil Angelov set up Karabük's equalizer at the 20-minute mark with a finely threaded pass through five Bursa players for Ilhan Parlak, who tapped cleanly past keeper Dimitar Ivankov to make the score even.
Altidore nearly brought the visitors into the lead in the 28th minute with a strike off the right post from 10 yards out.
With the second half seeing fewer shots at goal than in the first half, the affair ended at a one-goal deadlock.
Bursaspor remain in firm control of the third spot in the Super League standings with 50 points and look to host twelfth-place Ankaragücü next Monday.
Giresunspor 0 - 0 Caykur Rizespor
The Black Sea rivals from Giresun and Rize battled out to a scrappy draw on Saturday, with the latter falling to ten men after Gökhan Kaba saw straight red.
Freddy Adu made his fourth start for the Sparrowhawks in the midfield, and came off after 69 minutes of action.
Most of the encounter was a very physical battle in which many fouls and even a few yellow cards could have been called. Adu learned this in the eleventh minute when referee Özgüç Türkalp remained silent after getting toppled in the midfield by defender Volkan Koçaloğlu.
The central midfield pairing of Adu and Liberian Theo Weeks did their best to create oppotunities for the visitors, and set up Çağrı Yarkın for a header in the box that missed the mark in the 28th minute.
The first true shot of the game came a minute into the second half when Giresun's Cihan Gökal whirled in a ball for Fatih Şen, who connected with a header at top of goal box but sent it straight at Rize keeper Ramazan Kurşunlu.
The skies darkened for Rize when striker Gökhan Kaba saw red in the 63rd after a physical studs-up slide tackle from behind on midfielder Ali Zorlu.
Adu's shift ended at the 69 minute mark as striker Mehmet Al entered to compensate for the lack of a man.
Both teams smacked aluminum before it was all said and done. In the 72nd minute, Giresun's Rmazan Durdu orchestrated a nice drive through the midfield and found Ferdi in the box for a direct shot off the left post.
Almost ten minutes later, Weeks and defender Ersin Güreler on the left wing set up Mehmet Al, who faked his defender and connected with the right post.
The affair ended as it began with each side taking on a point, putting Rizespor in fourth on goal difference. Adu & Co travel to Akhisar next Sunday with a chance to put pressure on the top spot.
