RECAP: SPORTING CRISTAL 2 - 1 UNION COMERCIO
Diego Chavarri played a full 90 and scored another highlight reel goal to lift Sporting Cristal to a home win over Union Comercio in the Peruvian Primera Division on Saturday at Estadio San Martin de Porres in Lima.
After sitting out last weekend's game with a red card suspension, the New York City- born Chavarri returned to the starting lineup out on the wing position.
It did not take the heavily favored Sporting Cristal long to take the lead when in the 17th minute Yotun Flores collected the ball on the left side of the field and hit a low cross for Uruguayan forward Miguel Ximenez who hammered it home as he was making a run up the middle.
In the 29th minute Chavarri gave the hosts a two goal lead when he collected the ball about 25 yards from goal streaking in from the left side. He took one touch and unleashed an unstoppable left footed laser into the top of the net from the edge of the 18.
For Chavarri it was his second goal of the season with his first coming two weeks ago against Alianza Lima also in impressive fashion.
In the 62nd minute, Union Comercio would trim the lead to one when they scored from close range after a counterattack up the left side.
The loss drops Union Comercio to 14th place in the 16 team Peruvian Primera Division and they now have a mere four points through the first five games. Next weekend they return home to host CD Universidad San Martin.
The win lifted Sporting Cristal to sixth place in the league with seven points in five games. Next weekend they remain at home to host second place Cienciano.
