RECAP: ANDERLECHT 3 - 2 GENT
Defending league champions Anderlecht twice came from behind to register a hard fought 3 - 2 win over a stubborn Gent side on Sunday evening in Brussels.
American midfielder Sacha Kljestan, who will be joining up with the US National Team shortly, put in a 45 minute shift for Les Mauves, being replaced by Cheikhou Kouyate after the intermission.
The visitors struck first just five minutes after the re-start when Yaya Soumahoro lit up the scoreboard, but the lead was short lived as Anderlecht's front man Tom De Sutter bagged his first goal of the night to even things up. Battling for points in the top group of the play-offs, the Buffaloes re-established the lead courtesy of Kasey Keller's ex-team mate at Borussia Monchengladbach, Bernd Thijs. Again, the see-saw game continued and in the 80th minute De Sutter struck again to knot things up. The game winner came a couple minutes later however and this time it was Romelu Lukaku doing the damage and securing all the points.
The regular Jupiler Pro League season is now over and the top six teams will now compete for the championship in home and away fixtures that start April 2nd and continue until May 17th. Although the official play-off schedule has not been published at this time, Anderlecht is expected to open with Oguchi Onyewu's ex-team, Standard Liege, who squeaked into the top six with a 1-0 win thanks to a Beerschot own goal.
