A golden opportunity to take first place in the Scottish Premier league slipped through the fingertips of Maurice Edu and Rangers who allowed Dundee United a shocking second half comeback win at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.

Edu started in the Light Blues' midfield and went the full 90 in the disheartening defeat which leaves Rangers still two points below Celtic in the SPL standings.

Nikica Jelavic started Rangers off on the right foot with a goal in the 18th minute when he headed in El Hadji Diouf's free kick.

But United's David Robertson gave notice just seconds before the break that United would not go quietly on this day when he squared up the match.

Robertson was able to slip in under the Rangers defense and swung a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Allan McGregor to send the teams tied into the locker rooms.

Rangers once again took the lead just six minutes after halftime with a bit of help from Edu who set up Steven Naismith with a goal.

Second after a Rangers' corner kick, Edu found Naismith to his right and headed over to his teammate who blasted in a half-volley.

It was at the 77th minute mark when the Arabs began their final gamewinning charge first scoring on Johnny Russell's header off of Paul Dixon's long cross into the area.

Then David Goodwillie landed the killer blow in the 89th by outracing the Rangers defense and easily slotting past McGregor.

Edu and company will hope to do better on Tuesday when they face St. Johnstone.
