RECAP: WEEKEND DANISH ACTION
Chris Rolfe was once again on the field for Aalborg in their home loss to Odense while Michael Parkhurst was forced out of Nordsjaelland's scoreless draw at Horsens with an injury.
Aalborg BK 0 - 1 Odense BK
Chris Rolfe played the final 15 on Saturday for Aalborg, but was unable to help his team recover from an early goal by their visitors Odense as they remained firmly in the league's cellar.
After getting the start in the team's previous game just before the international break, Rolfe began Saturday's contest on the bench but entered the game as a 75th-minute substitute on the right wing for Anders Due.
Odense surged to the lead after just 13 minutes when a low cross found its way into the area to Peter Utaka, who rounded defender Kenneth Emil Petersen and beat keeper Karim Zaza for 1-0.
Aalborg applied pressure for the remainder of the half and much of the second, but were continually outdone by the stiff Odense defense, who were able to hold on for the remainder to earn the narrow victory.
The team remains entrenched in last place in the Superligaen standings, now with a four-point gap to safety. They will have their second straight home game on Sunday afternoon when they host AC Horsens.
AC Horsens 0 - 0 FC Nordsjaelland
Michael Parkhurst returned to the Wild Tigers' starting lineup to pair Andreas Bjelland in central defense, but had a short shift after leaving the game just before halftime with an injury to his right hamstring as the team battled to a point at AC Horsens.
Nordsjaelland were in control for the majority of the 90 minutes, but were simply unable to break through their hosts' defense after the lone close call just after the game's start.
A defensive error by Horsens in their own penalty area left the ball at the feet of Andreas Granskov, however he delayed momentarily instead of taking his shot, and ended up passing the ball over to Søren Christensen who sent it into the side netting.
A dominant Nordsjaelland midfield controlled the proceedings and limited Horsens to the odd set piece opportunity, however couldn't create any danger themselves as the game increasingly headed towards its scoreless conclusion.
Parkhurst left the game just before the half with a hamstring injury which will keep him out of the action for at least four weeks, and was replaced by youth team player Jores Okore who did well to continue stifling any chances created by the hosts.
The draw leaves Nordsjaelland just above the drop zone with three points to spare, and they will hope to increase that cushion when they visit SønderjyskE on Sunday.
FC Fredericia 3 - 0 Viborg FF
Babajide Ogunbiyi went the distance in Viborg's central defense on Sunday, however the team was doomed by a poor defensive showing in the second haf to fall back to the edge of the drop zone.
Ogunbiyi nearly put the Greens up shortly before the half-hour when he rose high to head a free kick delivery towards goal but his shot was straight into the hands of Fredericia's keeper.
The hosts took the advantage just before the halftime whistle, as Anders Nielsen beat the defense to put Fredericia ahead.
They added a second in the 57th minute when on-loan Midtjylland striker Jude Nworuh broke free in the area and rounded keeper Robert Veselovsky before striking for 2-0.
Nielsen then put the game away three minutes later with his second of the afternoon, pouncing on the ball after Viborg failed to clear it properly from their danger area, giving the final 3-0 score.
Viborg drop to 13th place with the loss, ahead of Kolding and out of the bottom three only by way of total goals scored. They have a tough encounter waiting them for their next outing, hosting fourth-place AB Copenhagen on Sunday.
Brøndby central defender Clarence Goodson is out with an injury and missed the team's 2-2 draw at home against Silkeborg IF on Sunday.
Benny Feilhaber is out with a minor thigh strain and did not suit up for Aarhus' 3-0 win at home over Kolding which gave them a nine-point lead atop the 1. Division.
