PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
With just three weeks left in the Mexican Clausura, Herculez Gomez and Jose Francisco Torres' Pachuca need to win out to advance to the playoffs while Edgar Castillo and Puebla will try to recover against Cruz Azul
Pachuca – Atlas
Red-hot Herculez Gomez should be in the starting 11 on Saturday when Pachuca welcome in Atlas to Estadio Hidalgo.
Gomez has scored three goals in the last two matches and will be called on by coach Efrain Flores to produce a similar effort for the Tuzos against the Zorros.
Pachuca need to win their final three matches if they want any chance of making the playoffs.
Dropping any points would seal the Tuzos' fate of watching the ‘liguilla' on television.
Gomez's teammate and fellow US international Jose Francisco Torres was suspended for their Wednesday loss at Tigres but should return to Flores' starting 11.
Atlas come into the match ties on points with Pachuca but in the midst of a very poor stretch. Saturday's visitors have not won since week eight when they upended Monterrey.
Pachuca will be missing Faustino Arizala due to suspension and Miguel Calero through injury while Atlas will have a full squad available.
Puebla – Cruz Azul
Edgar Castillo and Puebla return home on Saturday still licking their wounds from their midweek defeat to Santos but have a shot at redemption versus a confident Cruz Azul.
Castillo started in the ugly 4-0 defeat in Torreon on Wednesday but still could be slotted into the hosts' starting 11 at the opening whistle.
The American defender scored a late goal last weekend helping Puebla secure a point at home versus Toluca.
Puebla have played well at home this season but their atrocious road record will effectively keep them out of the playoffs.
Castillo and company have yet to earn a single point away from Puebla this season.
Cruz Azul arrive into the match with their tails up after thrashing Apertura champions Monterrey 3-0 on Wednesday.
Saturday's visitors are again on the verge of completing another successful season, but the question is whether or not they will finally be able to carry over that play into the playoffs where they have constantly failed to come through.
Alejandro Vela is out for Cruz Azul while Puebla will have a full squad.
Jonathan Bornstein will hope to see some minutes off the bench for Tigres when they visit Jaguares on Saturday.
Adrian Ruelas will likely not make the gameday roster for Santos' trip to Guadalajara to play Chivas.
Daniel Antunez and Sammy Ochoa are not expected to see action for Estudiantes who face America.
