RECAP: WEEKEND TURKISH ACTION
Freddy Adu scored a goal for Rizespor and Jozy Altidore came of the bench for Bursaspor but both Americans were on the losing end of the scoreboard this weekend in Turkey.
Kayserispor 1 ľ Bursaspor 0
Bursa fell hard to a inspired Kayseri squad on Sunday evening thanks to a lone strike from Paraguayan international Jonathan Santana.
Jozy Altidore made a second-half appearance a sub and finished off the final 25 minutes of play.
After a scoreless first half, the Bursa defense was unable to clear a loose ball in the box, allowing the Paraguayan midfielder to get a toe-poke past keeper Yavuz Ízkan for the 1-0 lead after 52 minutes.
Altidore entered for midfielder Pablo Batalla in the 66th minute, but was unable to spark the offense to arouse a comeback.
The affair turned sour two minutes before added time when Bursa's Ímer Erdoğan bowled over Ímer Sismanoglu, prompting referee Bariş Şimşek to give Erdoğan his marching orders. A scuffle between Kayseri's Karim Ziani and Bursa's Ozan Ipek a minute into injury time saw both exit the field with red cards.
With the loss, the Green Crocs are clinging to third place with 55 points, and followed closely beind by Gaziantepspor, who have 52. Bursa face the toughest foe of their remaining three games this season in Beşiktaş on Saturday at home.
Adanaspor 2 ľ Rizespor 1
Two early goals did the damage in favor of Adana, as a Freddy Adu strike for Rize was not enough Saturday evening.
The 21-year-old American entered as a substitute, recorded 34 minutes of action, and produced a goal for Rize.
Cameroonian M'billa Etame wasted no time in getting the hosts on the board with a tally after only three minutes, the 14th of the season for the league's second-leading striker.
Turkish hitman Emre Aktas added another in the 27th minute for Adana, who took the 2-0 lead into halftime.
After entering in the 56th for Ilyas Cakmak, Adu promptly got on the end of a feed through the box to slot home from the edge of the 6-yard box for the 2-1 scoreline.
Adana finished on top at the final whistle, most importantly bumbing Rize out of the promotion play-off zone into seventh. Rize have only two games to work their way back it, first at home next Sunday against TKI Tavşanli Li, and then away at Samsunspor the following weekend.
