SWEDISH CUP FOURTH ROUND DRAW
The three remaining Americans left in the Swedish Cup found out their fates on Friday, with Alejandro Bedoya and Gale Agbossoumonde both set to face top-flight competition.
While each team nearly made a mess of it, Allsvenskan teams Örebro and Djurgårdens did fight past their lower-league opposition in the third round, however playtime is over for both as they have been paired with fellow first-tier teams.
Alejandro Bedoya and his Örebro teammates will have the advantage of playing at home when hosting GAIS Göteborg in their Sunday, May 29 showdown. They needed a tougher than expected time to get past Ljungskile in the third round, finally showing the Superettan club the door after a penalty shootout.
GAIS also had a tough time to reach the fourth round, having to come from behind to finally beat FIF Sundsvall on Thursday night.
Gale Agbossoumonde and four-time Swedish Cup winners Djurgården narrowly avoided embarrassment at the hands of minnows IFK Luleå in the third round, going through on a late penalty call, and have been rewarded with a trip to IFK Göteborg.
These two team have won the Cup four of the last nine times, and while neither is performing particularly well in Allsvenskan play, both will be looking to add to their historical totals.
Göteborg have a total of six Cup wins to their name, and had absolutely no problems in the third round, dispatching of third-tier IF Limhamn Bunkeflo by a 6-2 margin.
Ryan Miller and Halmstads BK still have to play their third-round game on Wednesday before even thinking about the next matchup, however should they come out victorious on their trip to Karlstad, they will have a daunting task to host Malmö FF, 14-time winners of the Cup, and reigning Allsvenskan champs.
All fourth-round games are scheduled to be played on Sunday, May 29.
