RECAP: KUBAN 1 - 3 TOM TOMSK
In their first league game after the Russian Premier League midseason break, Eugene Starikov and Tom Tomsk put on an impressive performance in an important road win over Kuban Krasnodar.
Starikov started the game for the Siberian-based club and was subbed off in the 59th minute for Aleksandr Kharitonov.
Dmitri Smirnov opened the scoring for Tomsk in the 37th minute when headed home a long free kick from Yevgeny Balyaikin.
Kuban equalized the score at 1-1 in the 59th minute when Sergey Davidov converted a penalty after Tomsk keeper Sergey Pesjakov took down Kuban forward Lacina Traore inside the box. On the penalty, Pesjakov guessed the right way but was unable to stop Davidov's shot into the right side of the goal.
The score did not remain tied for long. In the 62nd minute Pavel Golyshev put Tomsk back on top 2-1 when he headed home a cross from the left side delivered by Maksim Kanunnikov.
In the 72nd minute Golyshev would put the game out of reach when he converted a penalty to make the score 3-1. On the play Kanunnikov was brought down in the box from behind by Kuban's Brazilian defender Zelao. Golyshev stepped up to take the penalty and shot right with Kuban keeper Aleksandr Budakov guessing the wrong way.
The win lifted Tomsk into 11th place with 19 points through 17 games. On Friday they return home to host 10th place Terek Grozny.
