RECAP: AC OULU 0 - 1 KOKKOLA PV
Jeremy Vuolo and AC Oulu suffered yet another setback on Wednesday night, falling by a single goal to visiting KPV to extend their winless streak in Ykkönen play to four games.
Oulu have seen their fortunes take a downturn in recent weeks since a long unbeaten streak had taken them to within goal differential of the league lead in late-June, with a pair of draws and a loss having them fall a full eight points off the pace.
They looked every bit the contender for most of Wednesday's night game against relegation-threatened KPV, and were clearly the better team on the field, but their ability to finish in front of goal ultimately saw them slump to another loss.
Their constant forward press during the first 45 minutes was met by an equally resolute KPV defense, with keeper Aki Lyyskiä also doing the job to keep the ball out of his own net when needed.
Randy Edwini-Bonsu and Janne Hietaselle were both dangerous for the hosts as they continued to control the run of play after the break, but it was KPV that would grab the only goal of the game just past the hour mark thanks to their lone shot on goal over the course of 90 minutes.
A corner fell to KPV forward Olli-Pekka Itälä, who smashed it in from near the penalty spot for the 1-0 lead and ultimate winning goal in favor of the visiting team.
With the loss, Oulu drop to sixth in the standings, although they do currently have one game in hand over all of the teams above them. They next take the field on Monday afternoon against visiting Porin Palloilijat.
