RECAP: ANZHI MAKHACHKAL 2 - 0 TOM TOMSK
NICK LEYDEN - Monday, August 8, 2011
Eugene Starikov started but lasted only 22 minutes before being subbed off in Tomsk's loss on the road at Anzhi.

After being paired with Maksim Kanunnikov in what has become his customary starting position up top, Starikov was replaced by head coach Aleksander Kharitonov midway through the first half with Tomsk already down 1-0.

The substitution was not injury-related as Coach Valeri Nepomniachi stated in his post-game press conference, saying only that it was a tactical change on which he did not feel the need to elaborate.

The swap did not alter Tomsk's fate though, as Makhach Gadzhiev's second half goal matched Alexander Prudnikov's opener and clinched the 2-0 victory for Anzhi on a rain-soaked field.

The loss puts Tomsk in 12th place, while Anzhi are tied for fourth after their billionaire owner has infused the roster with big-name talent like Roberto Carlos and Yuri Zhirkov.

Starikov will hope to retain his starting position next weekend when Tomsk host fellow struggler Spartak Nalchik next Saturday.
