Carlos Bocanegra and Mauriece Edu went the distance for Rangers who eked a victory out against 10-man Dundee United away from home to remain at the top of the Premier League.

Tannadice Park played home to the 10,000 plus spectators in Rangers weekend game that kept them at the top of the pack. Early chances went begging for either team but the game was turned on its head in the 30th minute.

Johnny Russell and Kirk Broadfoot got into a on field scuffle which saw Russell headbutt Broadfoot earning him a straight red for the head butt. Broadfoot was shown a yellow for his part in the altercation.

Even with the numerical advantage so early on, Rangers didn't get to go ahead goal until the 61st minute. Kyle Lafferty came up clutch again as Gregg Wylde whipped a ball into the box for the front man to nod home from 10 yards out.

Bocanegra and Steven Davis joined Broadfoot in the book for Rangers who did not have room for Alejandro Bedoya on the bench. Garry Kenneth and Danny Swanson picked up yellow cards for Dundee United.

Up next for Rangers is the clash of the titans as Celtic come to Ibrox Stadium next Sunday.
