INJURED JOHNSON OUT A MONTH
Fabian Johnson will miss four weeks after suffering a herniated disc in training on Tuesday, according to 1899 Hoffenheim's website.
Johnson has been a regular starter since moving to Hoffenheim from Wolfsburg this summer, playing mostly on the right flank.
The versatile player, who has experience at right midfield, left midfield, right back, and left back, recently announced that he will represent the United States in international play.
Johnson trained with the US team prior to the Costa Rica friendly, but will have to wait for his paperwork to clear before he can make his first appearance for the Stars and Stripes.
The injury is a setback to the Munich native's attempt to jump-start his career. Johnson earned strong reviews while playing at 1860 Munich and was considered a top German prospect, but a move to VfL Wolfsburg resulted in two years spent largely on the bench.
The herniated disc means that Johnson will likely be forced to skip the US friendlies against Honduras and Ecuador in October.
