PREVIEW: WEEKEND PORTUGUESE ACTION
Oguchi Onyewu will look to help Sporting to its third straight victory on their trip to Rio Ave, while Tony Taylor will hope to join Caleb Patterson-Sewell in the Atlético lineup when Trofense visits the Estádio da Tapadinha.
FC Rio Ave - Sporting CP
Oguchi Onyewu and Sporting both appear to be finding their rhythm after a slow start to the season.
The Lions will enter Monday's game against Rio Ave coming off successive wins over Paços de Ferreira last weekend and FC Zurich in Thursday's Europa League matchup.
The two victories coincide with Onyewu's only two starts of the season, as the powerful center back has been paired with Alberto Rodriguez while captain Daniel Carriço has struggled with an injury.
Sporting will be favored heavily as Rio Ave has earned just a single point in four games, scoring a total of one goal.
Atlético CP - CD Trofense
After appearing as a second half substitute in Atlético's only Liga Orangina game since signing, Taylor is looking to make a start as the outside right forward in a three man front line.
The Estoril loanee and his strike partners will be excited to face a Trofense defense that has leaked three goals in both of its away games so far.
Atlético will also rely on Patterson-Sewell and his stingy defense to maintain their position at the top of the standings against a team which has taken a disappointing two points from the first three games despite contending for promotion last season.
