RECAP: CHIEVO VERONA 2-1 GENOA
Michael Bradley made his second start in a row this Sunday in Serie A action as his AC Chievo Verona downed CFC Genoa 1893 for their second victory in as many matches.
Domenico di Carlo entrusted Bradley to hold down defensive midfield for a second straight week as the Flying Donkeys of Chievo Verona looked to continue their hot streak, as they came into the match on the heels of a couple of good results, including an unexpected victory over Napoli last time out. Genoa came into Sunday's action unbeaten in three games, with a surprising seven points from those matches.
The match really got going in the second half, as Genoa's Rodrigo Palacio grabbed the opener in the 48th minute. The Argentine striker received a pass just outside the box and proceeded to show some strength to fend off his defenders before getting enough on his shot to push it past Chievo keeper Stefano Sorrentino into the goal for the 1-0 lead.
Things got dramatic in the 59th minute, when Genoa's central defender was shown a straight-red for fouling Chievo's Sergio Pellissier, who was alone on goal and in the box. The subsequent penalty was missed, however, as the aforementioned Pellissier wasted a golden opportunity to his team back in the game.
In the 74th minute, Bradley took a corner from the right stick and sent his ball to the six yard box, where Pellissier met it with a powerful, well-placed header that landed in the back of keeper Sebastian Frey's net to make it 1-1. It was Bradley's first assist with Chievo.
Chievo completed the comeback in second-half stoppage time, as defender Sardo lofted in a cross towards the box that substitute Davide Moscardelli headed inside keeper Frey's left post for the dramatic late-game winner.
With the victory, Chievo are in seventh place with seven points from four matches. Next week Bradley and Cheivo travel to AC Cesena in Sunday Serie A play.
