Oguchi Onyewu was inserted back into the Sporting lineup immediately after returning from international duty, playing the first half in a victory over Famalicão in the Taça de Portugal.

The imposing centerback was paired with Captain Daniel Carriço for the first 45 minutes, which finished scoreless. Both were removed at halftime, though, with Bruno Pereirinha and Alberto Rodriguez taking their places.

As was to be expected, Sporting controlled the game throughout against their lower division opposition, though it was not until a 62nd minute penalty that the deadlock was broken.

The Lions has numerous chances in the first half, including a strong header by Onyewu off a Stijn Schaars corner kick in the 33rd minute, but could not convert.

Famalicão dug their own grave in the second half, giving away the penalty that was converted by Ricky van Wolfswinkel and then having Jorginho sent off for a second yellow card in the 65th minute.

Just two minutes later Wolfswinkel doubled the lead with a header from a Pereirinha cross, and Famalicão could find no way back.

Sporting's next match will be on 10/20 in the Europa League when FC Vaslui visit from Romania.
