PREVIEW: WEEKEND MEXICAN ACTION
It's a weekend of Americans trying to escape the bottom of the table as DaMarcus Beasley takes on Toluca, Herculez Gomez takes on Santos, and Edgar Castillo takes on Chivas.
Puebla - Toluca
Puebla and Toluca each have 16 points after 13 games while tied for 13th in the standings, just six points ahead of last place Atlas.
DaMarcus Beasley will look to continue in his starting role against Toluca, where he has grabbed two goals and two assists on the season.
Puebla will be without Duvier Riascos and Gabriel Pereyra due to red card suspension.
Toluca has two draws and a loss in their past three games, and will be hoping for their Uruguayan talisman Ivan Alonso to continue his hot streak of goal scoring. He has seven goals in 13 games. Toluca will be without Francisco Gamboa and Diego Novaretti, also due to red card suspension.
Estudiantes Tecos - Santos Laguna
Herculez Gomez will expect to come off the bench against league leaders Santos. Gomez is one of the most efficient scorers in Mexico this season, averaging just under a goal per 90 minutes played, leading his team with five on the season.
Estudiantes currently sits in 15th place, five points ahead of Atlas. A win could see them move up as high as 8th.
Santos will look to extend their lead at the top of the classification over rivals Cruz Azul and Chivas, who each trail by one point. Santos will be without defender Felipe Baloy due to red card suspension.
America - Chivas
Edgar Castillo will hope to see action against third place Chivas as America hopes to climb out of 16th place. The American left back did not enter the game in their 3-0 win over Monterrey in Week 13.
Chivas is coming off of a 5-2 victory over Estudiantes, and could leapfrog Cruz Azul and Santos with another win. They will be playing without Kristian Alvarez who received a red card within five minutes of entering the game against Estudiantes.
San Luis - Chiapas
Michael Orozco will look to get back on the field as 10th place San Luis takes on 5th place Chiapas. The center back dressed but did not play in last week's 1-1 draw against Cruz Azul. With a victory, San Luis could jump as high as 5th place in the gridlocked standings, depending on goal differential.
The Jaguares could move into 1st place on goal differential with a victory over the stingy San Luis, who have allowed the 4th fewest goals this season.
Jonathan Bornstein is not expected to play for Tigres as they take on Monterrey.
Daniel Antunez is not expected to dress for Estudiantes as they take on Santos.
Jose Torres will not dress for Pachuca against Pumas as he recovers from foot surgery.
Adrian Ruelas is on loan from Santos to Chiapas, and is not expected to play as they take on San Luis.
Marco Vidal could enter off the bench for Club Leon in the Liga de Ascenso match against Cruz Azul Hidalgo
