CHRISTOPHER ANDERSON - Monday, November 7, 2011
WAC/St. Andrä moved into sole possession of first place in the Austrian Erste Liga after salvaging a draw against an unshakable Linz eleven.

American Shawn Barry got the start and went the distance for the Linz back line in the result that keeps the Black and Whites five points behind the Wolves.

WAC/St. Andrä fought off a resolved Linz squad and struck in the 69th minute thanks to Stephan Stückler, but the guests equalized late with a Luiz Henrique free kick to leave it even in Wolfsberg.

After a dozen minutes Wolves striker Christian Falk tried to add to his league-leading tally count after getting a good look at goal from 15 yards out. The author of 14 goals this season only managed to fire straight at Linz keeper Thomas Mandl.

Shortly after, Linz threatened off a deep Daniel Kogler free kick lofted into the area for a Hannes Aigner header that sailed a foot wide of the right post.

Three minutes before the halftime whistle, midfielder Florian Hart found Aigner wide open at the top of the box, but the 30-year old Austrian fired straight at Christian Dobnik.

Barry got involved in the offense in the 52nd minute, laying off on the right side for Luiz Henrique, who launched a strike from 35 yards out that cleared the bar.

A quarter-hour later, Aigner surprised the defense with a reverse overhead kick from the top of the box that pinged the crossbar.

Stephan Stückler broke the deadlock just two minutes later after Sandro Zakany threaded a ball nicely through the Linz back line for the oncoming Stückler, who made no mistake from ten yards out and tapped past Mandl for the 1-0 lead.

Whereas Zakani deservedly recorded the assist, his foul on Luiz Henrique set up the equalizer for Linz in the 80th minute. Fouled just outside the area, the Brazilian stepped up and curled a 20-yard free kick over the wall and past Dobnik for the 1-1 equalizer.

With the points-sharing, Linz still sit five adrift of the top spot on 35 points and head west to Vorarlberg for a Friday night face-off against FC Lustenau on Nov. 18th.
