RECAP: WEEKEND ENGLISH ACTION
Brad Friedel and Tottenham continue their hot streak with a win over West Brom, while Jonathan Spector set up Birmingham City's late goal in their draw against Blackpool.
Bolton Wanderers 0-2 Everton
Tim Howard and Everton made it two wins in a row after they shutout Bolton this weekend at the Reebok Stadium.
Howard started and went the distance in Everton's win on Saturday.
Marouane Fellaini and Apostolos Vellios scored second half goals to give Everton their first back to back wins of the Premier League season.
Fallaini scored from close range after a quick cross in the 49th minute.
In the 78th minute, Leighton Baines found Tim Cahill with a cross in front of the Bolton goal. The Austrailian was able to knock the ball to Vellios who knocked home the insurance goal for Everton.
The 19th minute saw Bolton go down one after David Wheaton was given a red card after a dangerous tackle, debilitating his team for the majority of the match.
Nigel Reo-Coker received a yellow card for Bolton as well. Leon Osman was the only booking for Everton.
Bolton have now just won one game in their last five.
The Wanderers take on Tottenham next week, while Everton host Stoke City.
West Bromwich Albion 1-3 Tottenham Hotspur
Brad Friedel and Tottenham Hotspur continue their strong run of form as they defeated West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The ageless American ‘keeper started once again and went the distance for the Spurs.
Emmanuel Adebayor was the hero on this day, as the Togolese striker scored two goals.
Youssouf Mulumbu opened the scoring for the home team, as his header in the 10th minute gave West Brom the early momentum.
In the 25th minute Aaron Lennon was taken down by West Brom's Nicky Shorey, resulting in a penalty kick. Adebayor's initial attempt was saved by Ben Foster, but the on form striker knocked home the rebound.
Jermain Defoe then put Tottenham ahead in the 81st minute when he received a pass from Adebayor and slotted home past Foster.
Adebayor scored a late insurance goal after Gareth Bale found him in stoppage time.
Mulumbu and Chris Brunt were booked for West Brom, while Sandro received a yellow card for the Spurs.
Tottenham solidify their Champions League spot while West Brom remains five points from the relegation zone.
Spurs take on PAOK in Europa League action this week and then host Bolton next weekend. West Brom travels to play Queens Park Rangers.
Arsenal 1-1 Fulham
Clint Dempsey and Fulham tied rival Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in a London derby this weekend.
The Texan started and went the distance for Fulham.
Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen scored for both teams in the second half of the cross town rivalry game.
The first goal came in the 66th minute when Arsenal's Vermaelen attempted to clear a John Arne Riise run but accidentally knocked it in his own net.
In the 82nd minute Arsenal finally leveled as Vermaelen made up for his earlier gaff and headed home a Theo Walcott pass.
André Santos was booked for Arsenal, while Bobby Zamora, Dickson Etuhu, and Philippe Senderos received yellow cards for Fulham.
Arsenal takes on Manchester City in the League Cup this midweek while Fulham play Twente in the Europa League on Thursday.
Cardiff City 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Robbie Findley and Nottingham Forest were shutout by Cardiff City in Championship action.
Findley started and played 78 minutes for Forest.
Joe Mason headed home a Peter Whittingham cross in the 70th minute to give Cardiff City the only goal of the game for either team.
City continue their unbeaten streak to seven games and hold the third spot in the standings.
With the loss, Forest now find themselves hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Whittingham was booked for City while Guy Moussi and Lewis McGugan received yellows for Forest.
City host Blackburn Rovers in the League Cup this midweek while Forest take on Leeds United in league play on Tuesday.
Blackpool 2-2 Birmingham City
Jonathan Spector and Birmingham City tied Blackpool in an exciting Championship affair this Saturday.
Spector started and went the distance for City.
Marlon King opened the scoring for City in the 29th minute, only to see Stephen Crainey equalize two minutes later for Blackpool.
Neal Eardley then scored in the 57th minute on an impressive drive to give Blackpool the lead.
City though tied the game with just minutes left when Spector's pass found Nikola Zigic who knocked home the equalizer.
Spector then went on to receive a yellow card in the 90th minute.
City now find themselves just outside the playoff spots with games in hand.
Blackpool take on Leicester City on Tuesday in the League Cup. Birmingham play Sporting Braga in Europa League play on Thursday.
Eric Lichaj and Brad Guzan did not feature in Aston Villa's draw against Swansea City.
Zak Whitbread is injured and did not play in Norwich City's win over Queens Park Rangers.
Conor Doyle played the final 12 minutes in Derby County's loss to West Ham United.
Mike Grella played the final 20 minutes of Brentford's win against Rochdale.
Frank Simek is recovering from injury and did not feature in Carlisle United's win over Colchester United.
Jemal Johnson did not feature in Southend United's tie against Bristol Rovers.
John Paul Pittman was a second half sub in Crawley Town's win over Rotherham United in League Two play.
