DRAW SET FOR OLYMPIC QUALIFYING

The US U23 team learned its draw today for the Olympic Qualifying tournament to take place in March.

The United States was drawn into Group A with Canada, Cuba, and El Salvador. The Group A games will take place in Nashville at Sun Life Stadium.

Group B will consist of Mexico, Honduras, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. The Group B games will take place in Carson, California at the Home Depot Center.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals with the group winners taking on the second place finisher from the opposite group. The winners of the semifinal games will qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in July-August in the United Kingdom.

The Semifinals and Finals will take place at Kansas City's Livestrong Park.

The Olympic Qualifying tournament does not take place in any international window and clubs are not required to release players for the games.

The United States qualified for the 2008 Olympics where it failed to advance out of group play. In 2004 the team failed to qualify after falling to Mexico in the all-important semifinal game. In 2000, the United States qualified for the Olympics and advanced all the way to the semifinals.
