BERHALTER NAMED HAMMARBY COACH
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Monday, December 12, 2011
Today it was announced that former US national team defender Gregg Berhalter was hired to be the new head coach of Swedish club Hammarby.

Berhalter, 38, recently retired from the LA Galaxy this past season after the club won the 2011 MLS Cup.

Hammarby, which was the former club of Charlie Davies, has struggled in recent years. In 2009 they were relegated out of the top division, the Allsvenskan, in 2009 following a last place finish. This past year they narrowly avoided relegation to the third division with an 11th place finish in the 16 team Supperettan.

Berhalter's contract is for two years but the club has an option for a third year.

Hammarby is co-owned by AEG, the same group that also owns the LA Galaxy.
