RECAP: KIRYAT SHMONA 1 - 0 HAPOEL TEL AVIV
Bryan Gerzicich and Hapoel Kiryat Shmona had their dream season continued as they defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv to move into first place in the Israeli Premier League.
It was billed as the biggest game of the Israeli season so far as second place Kiryat Shmona hosted leaders Hapoel Tel Aviv with a chance to leapfrog the perennial power in the standings.
The Los Angeles-born Gerzicich has been a constant force for the club the past two seasons and once again earned the start in the defensive midfield.
The game was a hard-fought game that appeared to be heading to a scoreless draw but in the 76th minute the stalemate was broken.
On the play, Kiryat Shmona right back collected the ball on the right side and swung in a cross that found Barak Badash at the near post. Badash headed the ball powerfully past Hapoel Tel Aviv keeper Apollo Adele for the lead.
With the win, Kiryat Shmona's improbable season continues. The smallest team in the Israeli League from the northern-most point in the country now leads the league with 32 points through 15 games. They have not lost since August 27 and they have allowed just eight goals on the season.
Kiryat Shmona return to action on Saturday when they host Hapoel Haifa.
