CLINT WADDELL - Thursday, January 5, 2012
US defender Omar Gonzalez will be going to FC Nürnberg in the German Bundesliga on loan until the start of the MLS season.

This news comes just one day after it was announced that the national team player would be leaving Jürgen Klinsmann's national team training camp.

The defender from the defending MLS champions, the Los Angeles Galaxy, joined the club today at their training camp in Belek, Turkey.

"We are excited to have Omar with us at training camp," said Martin Bader, the Sport Executive and Spokesperson at FC Nürnberg, in a statement on the club's website. "We were planning on signing him this summer, but we were offered the chance to secure his services until at least the middle of February."

"After Philipp Wollscheid's transfer, we needed to consider a way to strengthen our central defense for the coming season. And Omar is an interesting candidate - a young, talented player who could represent FC Nürnberg well."

Gonzalez will join fellow American Timothy Chandler in the Nürnberg back line.
