ROGERS SIGNS WITH LEEDS UNITED
BRIAN SCIARETTA - Wednesday, January 11, 2012
US international winger Robbie Rogers has signed with Leeds United but the deal is contingent on the California native obtaining a British work permit.

The club announced the deal on its website on Wednesday.

If the deal moves forward it will be the second time Rogers has played in Europe. In 2006 he signed with Eredivise club Heerenveen but left for MLS in 2007 without playing a first team game in Holland.

Rogers, 24, has been with the Columbus Crew since 2007 and he has played 106 league games and has scored 13 goals. In 2008 he was named to the league's best XI and the Crew won both the Supporter's Shield and the MLS Cup.

Rogers does not automatically qualify for a UK work permit but must make his case on an appeal.
